spring.recap.2026

Hey… it’s been a while LOL! Pajolo Cam has been in the back of my mind this whole time. I’ve just been really busy. I’m back in college for English, Literature, and Writing studies!

Media

Movies

  • Rear Window
    • I know I used to do ratings, but I honestly can’t remember my initial reaction to this movie. I liked the colors a lot! And people-watching is one of my favorite hobbies, so I liked the movie for that. The misogyny is as present as ever. Really, that man just needs to make sweet homosexual love to that “friend” of his.
  • Showgirls
    • GINA GERSHON MY LOVE. AS SOON AS I SET MY EYES ON THAT WOMAN, I KNEW THE COURSE OF MY LIFE HAS BEEN ALTERED FOREVER. I need to watch everything that she’s in. I adored her in this movie. I wish the movie was more lesbianistic. That rape scene was unnecessary. This movie was sooooo long. Blah.
  • The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love
    • Such a cute movie. I probably won’t watch it again, but I felt nostalgic watching it somehow. I was born years after this movie came out, it’s just this movie is so human. It really captures the sweetness of a first love. I liked that anxious gay boy, Frank.
  • Bound (watched this two times in the spring)
    • I made a post about this movie, I love it so much. No words, just Gina Gershon. And Jennifer Tilly. They are phenomenal together!

Shows

  • The L Word
    • My girlfriend and I only watched the first two seasons of this show. LOVE IT! My favorite characters are Jenny and Shane :)<3 I feel like that’s not surprising at all.
  • Dr. Katz
    • Found this series on YouTube. It’s funny and relaxing hehe
  • Focus: Adults in the Room
    • Podcast about a teacher, Mr. Hudson, who sexually abused students at Garfield High School. Isolde Raftery, the host and a student at Garfiled when this was happening, is a great storyteller!

Books

  • Do What They Say or Else by Annie Ernaux
    • I related to this angsty teenager a lot. I also feel like I outgrew my parents in what kinds of conversations I could have with them.
  • Yellowface by R. F. Kuang
    • What a fun read. I loved seeing the descent of the white protagonist, it was really funny.
  • Passing by Nella Larson
    • The subtle homoeroticism in this one…
    • Interesting book! The characters were certainly fascinating. Didn’t expect the ending.
  • Until August by Garcia Marquez
    • I like this book! It’s short, but such a thrilling read despite how mundane the situation is.

Albums on repeat

  • I honestly have not been listening to a lot of new music.

Poetry & Music

Rejection email after rejection email from literary journals of Washington. Nobody wants my poems! Gah! Quite humbling… guess I gotta take a poetry class or something.

I’ve been writing a lot of songs about relationships and life lately. The last time I was writing this many songs was in the Fall/Winter of 2024. 2025 was a stagnant year for music… This spring, my writing is inspired by all the interesting situations I find myself in with different kinds of people. Reminiscing on past friendships, wondering where it all went wrong and whatnot. Confronting issues I have in current relationships, and what I can do to sustain them! Being back in therapy has been great for this.

Website & Writing

I’ve been gone! But I hope to post more in the summer since I won’t be taking classes this next quarter. I’ve been writing a lot for my English 101 class. I wrote a 10.5 page essay on the movie Sinners, specifically the church scene that plays in the beginning and towards the end of the movie. It’s titled “The Salvation of Music and the Looming Vampire.”

We were tasked to write an essay using terms from Hannah Arendt’s “Society and Culture,” so concepts like consumption, mass society, commodification, life processes, etc. I did a lot of research on sharecroppers and the racist landscape of the 20th century, how it evolved from slavery. I read about the close monitoring and harsh retaliation tactics used to control Black people in the Jim Crow South. I wrote about how the church had become a sanctuary for Southern Black communities, a place to express freely! Especially through music. I relate it all back to Sinners and that scene, with some more research on the Delta blues, “race records,” and the exploitation of Black artists. I talked about how the vampires are reminiscent of the entertainment industry and that they are an allegory for colonizers in the movie! I put in a lot of hours into this essay.

My teacher didn’t annotate it or grade it. I came into class and he said, “Seriously, 10 pages?” He said that for the final draft, I should just cut it down to 5 pages and then I’ll get an A. That was disappointing to hear because I spent a lot of time on this one. I wanted to know how he would critique my writing!!! It’s his job! BLAAAHggghh

Other Hobbies

I’m drawing and painting around the city :)

Hanging out with friends, going on dates, busy with school and work. It’s a good time!

The weather in Seattle this spring has been so wishy-washy. It’s not unusual for Seattle to be so temperamental, but this year is different. SUPER hot for two days, SUPER cold for two days, and the cycle continued throughout the season. I’m glad it’s finally just getting warmer and staying that way, but I am scared for how the effects of global warming will continue to affect the weather in the future. So freaky!
