what.i.did.on.my.day.off

i opened the music app
i tried to unlock my lover’s apartment with it
in my eagerness to be
home

i went inside, i sat on the bed
i opened my laptop
attacked by the software, AI pop-ups. i killed it
then it was time to think of the ocean

i kept returning to a question
whether i should give into being curious
my friends are over with jubilant conversation
but alas, it’s time for me to write

looking at the ocean in writing these words
i recall feeling happy. serene, actually
the waves of my fingers pressing into the keys
sinking into the rocks of the laptop before me

on a call with my kasama in Anakbayan,
i think of the rocks and where they were sourced
i killed the software as best i could
maybe i’ll be charged with murder

Binay Serrano was disappeared for some days, arrested with Christina Pasion:
civilians helping poor communities in Mindoro. while seeking medical care
unexplained claims became a basis for their abductions
the government sweeps away the underlying injustice

keys sinking into the rocks
they were mined and manufactured in lands where
infrastructure projects are erected by bloodied hands
projects heavy in wealth, drilling life out of communities
their homes turned shiny death sentences serving corporate interest
hungry people and their depraved government
they feed the poverty with a foreign word for peace

i opened the music app, now alone in this Seattle apartment
i think of the ocean connecting me to home
but Pax Silica’s competing for my attention. pampered by powerful people
its infancy nourished by sites polluting the city

but i need to relax, it’s my day off
sitting on the wooden floor, imagining the sand
easing into sentences, my hands fly in the wind
typing and processing the state of the world

how can i sit back as they create more casualties to be ignored
suppressing ways to explore the exploitation that will cause
these countries to submerge underwater
along with the music, friends, and conversations i enjoy

my home lies in the serenity of the ocean
she will reclaim what’s hers in time
this is how i know that justice is possible
so i will continue to write to prove it

say something!
